May 4-26, 2012Diane Ainsworth and David Turner www.robykinggalleries.com First Friday Opening Reception May 4, 6-8pm
“Pertaining to the Sea” is an exhibition about life around the Puget Sound, working on the water, playing on the water, or just viewing the water.
Northwest painters Diane Ainsworth and David Turner capture the ever changing mood of the skies and seas of this very unique region.Diane Ainsworth has been painting the boats and waters of Puget Sound for over 15 years with a singular interpretation. She works in oils with brush or palette knife in a “thick and thin” technique for a very painterly effect. “Impressionism comes naturally to me, capturing the momentary and transient effects of sunlight. I lose myself in the myriad of shapes, colors and light. These are the building blocks of my craft. Weaving them together like a tapestry, I try to convey my emotional reaction to my subject.”www.dianeainsworth.comFormerly an architect by profession, when David Turner returned to watercolor painting full time he vowed never to draw a straight line again! He has developed a very fresh and fluid style of watercolor painting. Active genre scenes abound in his colorful paintings. Fresh impressions of ordinary life are the subjects that delight and inspire him; painting quickly and confidently to capture the emotions of his subject. “I approach watercolor painting with the desire to produce paintings that are fresh, dynamic and hopefully entertaining. I paint quite fast and sometimes furious, primarily using big brushes and full sheets of watercolor paper.” On Saturday May 5, 1-3pm, you can watch David paint fast and furious!
Don’t miss it!
We are joining the social media! We began a Facebook page…Facebook.com/Roby King Galleries . Hoping to get a handle on it and post exciting bits of information during the month!
We are very pleased to bring this exhibit to Bainbridge Island in June. We personally viewed this exhibit in Sun Valley in January and were moved and impressed by the design and craftsmanship of these artists from the Buku Larrngay Mulka Art Center, of Yirrkala, Northern Territory in Australia. We will host this exhibit for the month of June only, this is the perfect time to add to your collection. Also of note at the Seattle Art Museum Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art from the Kaplan & Levi Collection May 31–September 2, 2012. Plan on a visit to Seattle and Bainbridge Island in June for this unique exhibit. http://www.seattleartmuseum.
