MARY N. BALCOMB
Mary N. Balcomb, etcher, author, designer, 1928-2013 www.marynbalcomb.com
We present a retrospective of Silverdale etching artist Mary N. Balcomb. Her extensive range of subject matter includes architecture, animals, the human figure, trees, flowers, birds and insects. Because of her love of drawing and her drawing abilities, the intaglio, particularly line etching, carried a particular fascination for her. The graceful lines that fill each composition attest to her skill, while thoughtful hand coloring adds to her understanding of each subject.
Mary authored four artist biographies, most recently Russian Impressionist painter Sergei Bongart. Her book Robin-Robin, A Journal included 35 etchings and drawings. She was a member of The Authors Guild, Inc. (USA). As an advocate of the arts for all children, she was a founding member of the Children’s Arts Center Foundation Inc., Seattle.
The gallery carries both the Robin-Robin book and biography of Sergei Bongart.
