We are very pleased to bring this exhibit to Bainbridge Island in June. We personally viewed this exhibit in Sun Valley in January and were moved and impressed by the design and craftsmanship of these artists from the Buku Larrngay Mulka Art Center, of Yirrkala, Northern Territory in Australia. We will host this exhibit for the month of June only, this is the perfect time to add to your collection. Also of note at the Seattle Art Museum Ancestral Modern: Australian Aboriginal Art from the Kaplan & Levi Collection May 31–September 2, 2012. Marty Rogers E.L. Jorgensen
This month at Bainbridge Homes we feature Watercolors by Marty Rogers and Oil paintings by E.L. Jorgensen of Whidbey Island. Rogers a lifelong watercolorist creates classic compositions with a palette of wonderful complex, earthy colors. With a nod to Andrew Wyeth, great light and shadows streak across West coast farmhouses. Jorgensen came to painting later in life, his training by way of photography which taught him composition and color. A deliberate stillness
is present in his work, his paintings are "stop action" creations. And the two artists are happily married!

Parvin’s singular style of acrylic painting allows her to create a landscape on canvas with all the texture and color that abound within nature. Her technique of pouring thin and thick paints, splattering and brushwork combine to create a unique work of art.

“Every day I paint. I create something that has never existed before. On good days the paints can’t wait to fall in just the right place onto the canvas. The colors speak to each other and an image begins to emerge in novel form. I love it when that happens!

open to its rewards everyday. …providing a continual sense of beauty, inspiration and a sense of peacefulness.

Small paintings are like gems. Some artists say that it is more difficult to create a smaller painting than a larger one… A small landscape still has to show depth,
a figurative piece needs to maintain all the intricacies of the human form, and a still life needs to give a sense of scale for all the objects in the composition.

Owning a piece of art means that we are merely caretakers for that work before it gets passed on to the next person, the next generation, to enjoy.

MAX HAYSLETTE
Originally from WV and now in his 80′s, Max was awarded the "West Virginia Award", the highest civilian award granted in the state, by the WV State Governor Tomblin
Max presented the city of Rainelle with a painting of the "Meadow River Lumber Mill" an historically important mill for the area. The painting will be a part of the collection of the North House Museum in Lewisburg, WV.
Further accolades came from Dr. John Cuthbert, director of the New Museum of Art at West Virginia University. Max’s paintings and documents will be included in this new museum and archives.

At the forefront of the "food painting" movement were the Dutch Realists of the 16th & 17th c., featuring rich displays of food on counters and tables. Raenell Doyle sites theses Dutch masters as her major influence, with the use of a stong light source she creates luscious depictions of fruits and flowers with shadows and mood. Richard Hall combines the knowledge of the old masters use of "harmonic proportions" with his very "English sense of humour", and creates still lifes of disparate objects plus a touch of whimsy! By the 19th c. French artists had adopted the "still life" genre, mixing traditional and modern styles. The modern style was meant to be more decorative, not just the exact representation of food. Working in the tradition of Russian Impressionism, Pam Ingalls respectful eye recognizes the beauty in the simple subjects of the culinary world. Fay Judson’s Impressionistic painting of "Grannie Smiths" pays tribute to the unending attributes and symbolism of the apple. Bread, the staple and staff of life, is colorfully rendered in Guoache by Peter Juvonen. Stylized interpretations are a part of todays "food" genre, building on the expressions of bounty and symbolism in unique ways. Patty Rogers composition is built in layers of texture and color, producing works where represational content and the texural surface upon which they are painted have equal merit. Parvin combines her classical training with contemporary design producing huge pears that hark back to bounty, but proclaim it by exagerating the size. Food in art will always exist, as an educational tool, fruits and vegetables are an invaluable subject matter to study shape, light, value, color, and then you eat them when fully ripe!

Max Hayslette received “highest honors” in his home state of West Virginia on April 23, 2011. Governor Tomblin of WV presented the civilian honors. Max will be represented at the new Museum of Art at West Virginia University. Congratulations Max on a lifetime of amazing artistic creation! We look forward to your new exhibition at Roby King in 2012.

Road work seems to be progressing pretty well and the latest is the parade will go down Winslow Way, barring any unplanned events!
Sidewalks are hopefully being poured next week on the north side and that will be very helpful. A bit of normalcy will return.

we will be happy to deliver finished pieces to you when you find
it is too difficult to get into town.
After 20 years, we know you all very well and our goal will be to make
this period as easy for you as possible.

Needless to say, this will be a difficult time for most of the merchants
and darn inconvenient for everyone! So let your local merchants know
if you have any suggestions during this construction. The merchants are
talking to the city and the city is talking to the contractor and we, the
merchants want to talk to you, the customer, for your suggestions.
It will be worth it in the long run, Winslow will end up with proper
sewer lines and water lines, new sidewalks and some new trees!
